Marcia Daft consulted with the National Symphony Orchestra to develop the model for educational booklets and recordings used to prepare young audiences to attend NSO performances. Since then, she has published more than twenty educational packages with the NSO.

Marcia Daft develops educational materials and training programs for regional and state arts-in-education initiatives throughout the country. Project examples include a three-year initiative in Lawrence, Kansas Public Schools to train teachers in arts integrated instructional practices and create a statewide curriculum linking music and movement to language arts and mathematics.

Smithsonian Jazz Masterworks Orchestra, Smithsonian Institution

Smithsonian Institution Piano 300 Exhibition

Arts Education Consultant, 1998 - 2001


Marcia Daft served as education consultant for the Smithsonian Institution’s exhibition celebrating three hundred years of the piano. She worked with the curatorial team to develop the conceptual framework for the exhibition as well as the exhibition script. Ms. Daft presented lectures and public performances on the historic instruments featured in this exhibition.

Marcia Daft served as consultant for an educational series on the history of synthesizers and electric keyboards. She organized, scripted, and produced live, interactive television broadcasts from the Smithsonian Institution.



150 Years of America's Smithsonian

Director of Education, 1996-1997


Smithsonian’s 150th Anniversary exhibition first traveled to Japan and then toured the United States. Marcia Daft served as educational advisor to the curatorial team during the exhibition design, created the exhibit’s educational guide, developed interactive educational content for the exhibition’s CD-ROM. She also designed and implemented national educational outreach programs in conjunction with the traveling exhibition.

Marcia Daft served as consultant for joint project between the Smithsonian Institution and the Rock and Roll Museum and Hall of Fame, designing, scripting and presenting live, interactive video broadcasts from the Smithsonian.
